How to Make Varan Bhaat

  • Wash and soak the dal in water for 20-30 mins.
  • Pressure cook the dal with water till about 4-5 whistles. Churn the varan (dal) lightly.
  • The dal should be thick in consistency.
  • Add rock salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida.
  • Add ghee to the varan.
  • Let it cook on a slow flame for five minutes.
  • Garnish with lemon wedges, slit green chillies and a dollop of ghee.
  • Serve with hot steamed rice.
