  • 1/2 kg Okra (chopped as small pieces)
  • 1 Onion(big and chopped finely)
  • 2 Green chillies (slit opened)
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds+ Urad Dal
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Oil
  • Salt
  • To Dry roast and Grind:
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Peppercorns
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp Poppy Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Channa dal
  • 2 tbsp Desiccated Coconut
  • 3 Dry Red Chillies
  • How to Make Varuthu Arach Vendakka Poriyal-Okra Curry:

    1. Dry roast and grind all the ingredients given in the list and keep aside.
    2. Heat enough oil, splutter the mustard seeds and urad dal, add immediately add the chopped onions, slit green chillies, salt.
    3. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
    4. Meanwhile heat a few drops of oil, fry the chopped okra for few minutes until they get half cooked.
    5. Add the ground spice powder and partially cooked okras to the onions, cook on simmer until the okra pieces gets well coated with the spices and cooked well.
    6. Enjoy hot with curd rice or rasam rice.
