Ingredients

  • 1 cup - boiled tur dal
  • 2 - Onions chopped
  • 1 - Tomato
  • 2 - Green chillies
  • 6 - Curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp - chopped Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Tamarind paste
  • 1 tsp - sambar powder
  • 1 tsp - grated Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp - powdered Jaggery
  • A pinch of Turmeric powder
  • A pinch of Asafoetida
  • Ghee to fry
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Vengaaya Sambar:

    1. Blend the tuvar dal in a mixer for 2 seconds.
    2. Heat ghee in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
    3. Add the asafoetida, turmeric powder, green chilli, ginger and curry leaves.
    4. Add the onions and saute the onion for 2 minutes.
    5. Chop the tomatoes and add it and saute for another 1 minute.
    6. Now add the tuvar dal and add 2 cups of water.
    7. Add the tamarind paste, sambar powder, jaggery and required amount of salt and cook for 5 minutes.
    8. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
