How to Make Walnut Date Bars

  • Combine all the ingredients for the base.
  • Press into a swiss roll tray, greased and lined with butter paper.
  • Bake at 170 degrees centigrade for about 20 minutes or till the mixture is firm.
  • Meanwhile, chop the dates, Dissolve the jaggery in 1/2 cup of water.
  • Add to the dates and simmer till dates are soft and the mixture is thick.
  • Cool the date mixture.
  • Mix the flour with baking powder and salt.
  • Beat brown sugar and eggs together.
  • Mix in flour, dates, vanilla essence, walnuts and raisins.
  • Spread on the baked layer and bake further for 25-30 minutes.
  • Cool and cut into bars.
