How to Make Watermelon and Black Urad Dal Kootu

  • Grind coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds and pepper to a fine paste
  • Heat a tsp of oil, add the onions, tomatoes and saute until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add watermelon pieces, and saute until the vegetables are half done
  • Now add toor dal, black urad dal, turmeric powder and salt to the vegetables.
  • Add enough water and pressure cook for 3 whistles
  • Heat oil, fry the mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds along with asafoetida powder and curry leaves and keep aside.
  • Once the pressure subsides add tempered spices, ground paste and cook for few minutes, turn off the stove.
  • Add the coriander leaves and serve
