Ingredients

  • 3 - medium-sized mackerels
  • 3 - medium-sized onions, chopped finely
  • 2 - tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp - vinegar
  • 2 tsp - cumin powder
  • 1 tsp - coriander powder
  • 1 tsp - ginger and garlic paste
  • 2 - green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • salt

How to Make Whole curried mackerels

  • Clean and remove the scales, fins and insides of the mackerels.
  • Marinate it with a pinch of salt and turmeric powder for 15 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a flat pan and shallow fry the fish on both sides till they are evenly brown in colour.
  • Remove and keep it aside.
  • Heat a little more oil in the same pan and saute the onions till they are light brown in colour.
  • Add the ginger, garlic paste, tomatoes, chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt and vinegar and fry it on low heat till the tomatoes are pulpy.
  • Add one cup of water and bring it to a boil.
  • Add the mackerels and green chillies and mix it gently.
  • Simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes till the fish absorbs the flavours.
  • Serve it with rice or bread.
