Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Rice
  • 1 cup - Toor Dal
  • A handful - Green peas
  • A handful - Peanuts
  • 100 g - Carrots
  • 100 g -beans
  • 100 g - Cauliflower
  • 100 g - Potatoes
  • 2 - large Onions
  • 1/2 cup - oil
  • salt - to taste
  • Cilantro
  • Curry leaves
  • To make paste:
  • 20 - Red Chillies
  • A handful - Coriander seeds
  • A handful - Bengal Gram dal
  • A handful - Urad Dal
  • 2 tsp - Poppy Seeds
  • 5 - medium sized Cinnamon sticks
  • 4 - Cloves
  • 1 cup - coconut, grated
  • A small ball of Tamarind
  • 2 - medium sized Tomatoes
  • How to Make Yummy Bisi Bele Bath:

    1. To make the paste: Dry roast all the ingredients (except tamarind ) till they are hot and fragrant.
    2. Allow it to cool and grind all the spices in a mixer along with water and keep it aside.
    3. Cook dal, vegetables, onions and tomatoes in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
    4. In a separate pan, heat oil and add some mustard seeds, jeera and curry leaves. Once it splutters, add to the dal mixture.
    5. Add salt and tamarind juice to it and allow it to cook well for about 10 to 15 minutes.
    6. Wash the rice and add it directly to the boiling liquid.
    7. Cook till the rice is ready. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with chips and raita.
