Ingredients

  • 1 cup - rice
  • 1 cup - toor dal
  • A handful - green peas
  • A handful - peanuts
  • 100 g - carrots
  • 100 g -beans
  • 100 g - cauliflower
  • 100 g - potatoes
  • 2 - large onions
  • 1/2 cup - oil
  • salt - to taste
  • cilantro
  • curry leaves
  • To make paste:
  • 20 - red chillies
  • A handful - coriander seeds
  • A handful - Bengal gram dal
  • A handful - urad dal
  • 2 tsp - poppy seeds
  • 5 - medium sized cinnamon sticks
  • 4 - cloves
  • 1 cup - coconut, grated
  • A small ball of tamarind
  • 2 - medium sized tomatoes

How to Make Yummy Bisi Bele Bath

  • To make the paste: Dry roast all the ingredients (except tamarind ) till they are hot and fragrant.
  • Allow it to cool and grind all the spices in a mixer along with water and keep it aside.
  • Cook dal, vegetables, onions and tomatoes in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
  • In a separate pan, heat oil and add some mustard seeds, jeera and curry leaves. Once it splutters, add to the dal mixture.
  • Add salt and tamarind juice to it and allow it to cook well for about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Wash the rice and add it directly to the boiling liquid.
  • Cook till the rice is ready. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with chips and raita.
