Ingredients

  • Long grain rice - 3 cups
  • Toor dal - 1/2 cup
  • Chana dal - 1/2 cup
  • Red chillies - 6 to 8 (chilli powder can be added for taste)
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Big onion - 1 (cut finely)
  • Dry coconut - 3 tbsp (if desired)
  • Hing - a pinch
  • Oil for cooking

How to Make Adai with Rice and Daals

  • Soak the rice and dals separately for at least 2 hours.
  • Grind the rice and chillies well in a mixie jar.
  • Grind the dals coarsely. Mix them together.
  • The consistency has to be like the batter for dosa.
  • Add salt as per taste.
  • Mix jeera, cut onion, coconut and hing.
  • Heat tawa and make adais.
  • Use about 1 tsp of oil for each adai.
  • Cook on both sides.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney.
