2 cups - maida
2 tbsp - Vanaspati
Salt, a pinch
1/4 tsp - cooking soda
1 cup - powered sugar

How to Make Alo jilo
In a broad vessel rub vanaspati and soda together till it forms a frothy paste.
Mix flour and salt into this and blend well with fingers till the mixture becomes crumbly.
Now add water a little at a time and knead into dough.
Keep aside for 10 mins.
Make small balls with the dough and flatten it out like a roti.
Now make 5 slits on the roti using a sharp knife leaving a centimetre on the top and bottom.
Carefully fold it twice and twist both the ends with your hands.
Do this with all the dough and leave them on a plastic sheet.
Now heat oil in a pan and fry the alo jilo till they turn light brown on both sides.
Spread powdered sugar on a flat plate.
Drop the fried alo jilo in the powdered sugar and coat them with sugar on both the sides.
Do this as soon as you take it out of the oil.
