  • ½ kg - potatoes
  • 200 g - poshto (khus khus)
  • 4 - green chillies
  • 5 to 6 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • Sufficient oil for frying the potatoes
  • 4 tbsp - oil
  • 2 medium size onions (finely chopped)
  • ¼ tsp - turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

How to Make Aloo Poshto

  • Peel and cut potatoes into quarters.
  • Soak the poshto in slightly warm water for 20 minutes.
  • Grind it along with green chillies, ginger, garlic and salt to a fine paste.
  • Heat sufficient oil in a kadai and semi-fry the potatoes on a medium flame.
  • Keep aside. Heat 4 tbsp oil in a pan.
  • Add onions and saute on a low flame till transparent.
  • Add the poshto paste, turmeric powder and saute the mixture on a low flame for a few minutes.
  • Add the fried potatoes and mix well.
  • Keep covered on a low flame for 15-20 minutes, mixing at regular intervals, so that the potatoes are well covered with poshto mixture.
  • Serve hot with rotis.
