  • 6 - medium size potatoes
  • 2 - medium size, ripe tomatoes
  • 1/2 inch - ginger
  • 1 - medium size onion
  • 1 tsp - cumin seed
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1.5 tsps - garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 green chillies
  • 4 tbsp - cooking oil

How to Make Aloo Tamatar Sabzi

  • Peel the potatoes. Cut them into four pieces each and soak in water.
  • Slice the onions to thin pieces and mince/grate ginger.
  • Cut tomatoes into six pieces each.
  • Heat oil in a cooker on medium heat and add cumin seeds, onions, ginger, tomatoes, turmeric powder, green chillies and garam masala.
  • Stir everything till this "masala" sweats.
  • Add the potatoes and mix them well with the masala.
  • Add one cup water and close the lid of the cooker.
  • Remove it from heat after two whistles.
  • Open the cooker after fifteen minutes.
  • Serve with hot, fresh chappati and curds.
