Ingredients

  • 4 - potatoes, medium sized
  • 1 - onion, medium size (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup - peas
  • 3 - green chillies (finely chopped)
  • A little coriander leaves
  • A few mint leaves
  • 2 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp - corn flour
  • salt
  • 150g - gram flour
  • 1 pinch - soda
  • 1 cup - water
  • oil to deep fry

How to Make Aloo Vada

  • Boil, peel and finely mash the potatoes.
  • Put all ingredients except gram flour, soda and water into the mashed potatoes and mix well.
  • Make 10-12 balls of even size.
  • Make batter with gram flour, soda, salt and water.
  • Heat the oil for deep frying.
  • Dip every ball into the gram flour batter and fry in hot oil on a medium flame till it becomes crisp and attains a light brown tinge.
  • Drain it on a kitchen paper.
  • Serve hot with green and tamarind chutneys or tomato sauce.
