  • 1.5 cups - diced crust of bread
  • 1/2 pint - milk
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 tbsp. - seedless raisins
  • 2 tbsp. - sugar
  • vanilla essence
  • custard sauce
  • Ingredients for the custard sauce:
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 pint milk
  • 1 dessert spoon sugar
  • A few drops of vanilla essence

How to Make American Cabinet Pudding

  • Combine milk, egg, sugar and few drops of vanilla essence.
  • Place the bread and raisins in a basin and pour in the milk mixture.
  • Cover with a cloth and steam for 1.5 hours.
  • Serve with custard sauce.
  • For custard sauce:
  • Boil the milk. Beat eggs and sugar together and pour the boiling milk over the mixture, stirring all the time.
  • Return to the saucepan and stir until the mixture thickens. Serve.
