Ingredients

  • 2 - Fried appalam
  • 1 tbsp - Tamarind paste
  • 1 tbsp - Sambar powder
  • 2 cups - Water
  • 1 tbsp - Bengal gram dal
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • A pinch of turmeric
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp - Oil

How to Make Appalam Vathal Kuzhambu

  • Heat oil in a kadai.
  • Add mustard and allow it to splutter.
  • Add the bengal gram dal, asafoetida and turmeric powder.
  • Break the appalam into small pieces and add to it.
  • Add the tamarind paste, sambar powder and the water and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Add the required amount of salt.
  • Serve hot with rice.
