Ingredients

  • 200 g - tur dal
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp - ghee
  • 2 - medium-sized onions (finely chopped)
  • 3-4 flakes - garlic (finely chopped)
  • 2-3 - medium-sized tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp - hing
  • 2-3 - green chillies (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp - garam masala
  • 1-2 tsp - fresh coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • salt to taste

How to Make Arhar Ki Dal

  • Clean and wash the dal. Soak for about 20 minutes.
  • Add salt and turmeric powder.
  • Pressure-cook with sufficient water (3-4 whistles).
  • Mash the dal gently.
  • Heat ghee in a small kadhai.
  • Add the chopped onions, tomatoes and garlic.
  • Mix well and stir-fry for a few minutes.
  • Add hing and chopped green chillies.
  • Add the mixture to the dal and mix well.
  • Add garam masala and mix well.
  • Boil the dal for 3-4 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with rotis or steamed rice.
