Aval Oats Idli is a healthy and tasty breakfast that is enjoyed by almost everyone, even the fussiest of kids would fall in love with them.This delicious dish combines the goodness of both aval (flattened rice) and oats. Aval or beaten rice or flattened rice is filled with proteins, vitamins, minerals and several other nutritional components that maintain our metabolism. Oats is a healthy whole grain that contains soluble and other dietary fiber, which keeps our cholesterol level in check! 

This light breakfast is easily digestible hence even diabetics can relish it with no worries. Aval and oats along with yummy ingredients - carrot, peas, curd, mustard, channa dal, urad dal and green chillies make it a savoury, wholesome dish. You can serve the hot idlis with sambhar and chutney.

  • Aval/Flattened Rice- 1/2 cup
  • Rolled Oats-1/2 cup
  • Curd-1/2 cup
  • Carrot-1
  • Peas-a handful
  • Mustard-1/2 tsp
  • Channa Dal-1/2 tsp
  • Green Chillies-2
  • Oil-1 tsp
  • Urad Dal-1/2 tsp
  • Fruit Salt- a pinch
  • Salt- to taste
  • Coriander leaves-a few

How to Make Aval Oats Idli

  • Dry roast aval and oats in a pan and once cooled, powder them coarsely in a blender. Then, add salt, fruit salt and curd. The idli batter is ready.
  • In a pan, add mustard, channa dal and urad dal with green chillies. Also add grated carrot and peas. Add this mixture to the idli batter.
  • With this, add coriander leaves and mix well. Grease the idli plates with oil and pour in the batter.
  • Steam until done. Tasty Aval Oats Idli is ready. Serve hot with sambhar and chutney.
