Ingredients

  • 1 cup - beaten rice
  • 1/2 cup - chopped onions
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric
  • 1 sprig - curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp - channa + urad dal mixture
  • 1 tsp - peanut, cashews
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1/2 tsp - sugar
  • 1 tsp - lime juice
  • 1 tbsp - grated coconut
  • 1 tbsp - chopped coriander
  • Salt as per taste.

How to Make Avalakki uppittu (seasoned poha)

  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan, and splutter mustard seeds. | Add green chilli, curry leaves, dal mixture and peanuts, and saute.
  • Then add finely chopped onions and fry until they turn lightly brown in colour.
  • Meanwhile, wash and soak thick poha in water for about 3-4 minutes. Drain.
  • Once the onions are done, add poha, salt, sugar, grated coconut and mix well and cook for about a minute or two.
  • Remove from fire and add lemon juice and mix well.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander and serve.
