  • Karela - 1/4 kg
  • Chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Tamarind - lemon size
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard seed - 1/2 tsp
  • Sugar - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Salt
  • Oil

How to Make Bavakkai Oorukai (Pickle)

  • Cut the bitter gourd into small pieces and fry in oil till it turns brown.
  • Soak the tamarind and extract juice.
  • Heat a kadai and add two 2 tsp of oil.
  • Splutter mustard seeds and pour tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt and then add chilli powder and fried karela. | Keep on fire and mix well, remove and add sugar.
