Ingredients

  • 1 lb - beef pieces, medium pieces
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup - carrots, medium pieces
  • 1/2 cup - chopped tomatoes
  • 2 - dried red chillies
  • 2-3- bay leaves
  • 1 inch - cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 tsp -peppercorns
  • 1/2 tsp - cumin powder
  • 1 cube - chicken/beef stock
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp - any curry powder of your choice
  • 3-4 cloves - garlic, crushed
  • 2 tbsp - vinegar
  • 3 tbsp - olive oil
  • 1 cup water

How to Make Beef And Carrot Stew

  • Heat the oil in a pressure cooker and fry the onions to pink.
  • Add the whole spices - red chillies, bay leaves, cinnamon, garlic and peppercorns. Fry well.
  • Add the spice powders and stock cube and fry well.
  • Add 1-2 tbsp water to prevent it from burning at the base.
  • Add the tomatoes and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add the beef pieces and cook on high flame, tossing them around, for 2-3 minutes till evenly browned.
  • Add vinegar and salt along with the water and pressure cook - 1 whistle on high flame - and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • When the steam escapes, open and add the carrots.
  • Pressure cook for another 10 minutes.
  • Serve with bread, croutons, bread sticks or soup crackers.
