Ingredients

  • 250 gms. poha
  • 1 cup milk
  • 250 gms. sugar
  • ½ tsp. essence of rose
  • For the filling :
  • ½ coconut
  • 150 gms. khoya
  • 3 tbsp. sugar

How to Make Bengali Chirer Pithe

  • Grate the coconut finely and mix in the sugar.
  • Cook over a slow fire till the mixture turns brown and sticky.
  • Mix in the khoya and mix till smooth and remove from fire.
  • Put 2 cups water in sugar and prepare a syrup of one-thread consistency and remove from fire.
  • Wash and soak the poha in milk, when the milk is fully absorbed by the poha, knead to a smooth dough with your hands.
  • Divide the dough and the filling into equal number of portions.
  • Form the dough into balls around the filling and deep fry over low heat to a golden brown colour.
  • Drain and toss into the syrup.
  • Sprinkle essence on top.
  • Serve after 2 hours.
