Ingredients

  • 7 to 8 slices bread
  • 1/4 cup - rava
  • 1/2 tsp - channa dal
  • 1/2 tsp - urad dal
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 2 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 3 to 4 tbsp - oil for frying
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 3 cups - water
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

How to Make Bread Dal Upma

  • Roast the rava in a kadai without any oil, till the raw smell disappears. Set aside.
  • In another kadai heat the oil and then add the mustard seeds, curry leaves, chana and urad dal.
  • Introduce the onions (cut lengthwise) and green chilies.
  • Fry the onions till they turn slightly pink.
  • Now add the water, lime juice, salt and turmeric powder.
  • When the water starts boiling, reduce the flame.
  • Sprinkle the rava with one hand and stir with another to avoid lumps.
  • Add the bread which has been cut into small pieces.
  • Mix well and serve hot.
