  • 6 big slices day old bread (white, plain or brown)
  • 3 green chillies, halved
  • 1 tsp- coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 stalk curry leaves
  • 1/2 lemon juice extracted
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp- red chilli powder
  • 2 pinches asafoetida powder
  • 1/2 tsp- salt
  • 1/2 tsp- each mustard & cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp- oil

How to Make Bread Savoury

  • Crumble bread slices coarsely, including crusty edges.
  • Sprinkle chilli powder, turmeric, salt over crumbs, mix, keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a large heavy pan, add seeds allow to splutter.
  • Add asafoetida, chillies and curry leaves. Stir once.
  • Add bread crumbs, lemon juice, and mix well.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander.
  • Serve hot or cool a bit and pack in foil as a carry along.
