Ingredients

  • 1 - large brinjal
  • 1/2 - chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp - sambar powder
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard
  • 1/2 tsp - urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp - toor dal
  • 4 - dry chillies
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Salt - to taste
  • 1/2 cup - tamarind extract
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • 4-5 - curry leaves

How to Make Brinjal Rasavangi and Brinjal Gothsu

  • Cut brinjal into pieces and fry in 1 tsp of oil. Then pour tamarind water and boil with 1/2 tsp salt and a pinch turmeric powder
  • Boil 1/4 cup toor dal
  • In a pan heat little oil and fry a tsp channa dal, 2 tsp coriander, red chilli and 1 tbsp coconut
  • Grind into a fine powder in a mixi
  • Then add the powder and dal into boiled brinjal and pour enough water to get the required consistency
  • Kathrikai Gothsu Method:
  • Take one big brinjal and heat directly in the gas on all sides and peel off the skin
  • Then mash the brinjal and pour it in a pan with tamarind extract
  • Add 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp chilli powder, a pinch of jaggery and then boil it for 5- 10 mins
  • And finally season it with mustard seeds
  • Serve.
