  • 1 cup - split green dal
  • 1 cup - sugar
  • 1 cup - rice
  • 1 cup - urad dal
  • Oil - for deep frying
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Buralu

  • Soak the split green dal in water and wash it well after 1 hour or so.
  • Soak both the rice and urad dal in water for 1 hour.
  • Grind the split green dal (without water) to an idli-like consistency.
  • Make idlis out of that batter (don't add salt).
  • Take out the idlis, mash them and let them cool.
  • Take a thick bottom vessel, add 1 cup of sugar, a little water and heat it.
  • After 2 minutes, add the mashed idlis and mix well.
  • Cook the mixture for half an hour.
  • Now grind the rice and urad dal together in a blender, add salt to taste.
  • Heat oil, make small balls from the dal mixture, dip them in the rice batter and deep fry.
