  • Few sheets of thinly rolled pastry, cut into rounds
  • For the mincemeat mixture:
  • 250 gms. raisins
  • 375 gms. currants
  • 100 ml. brandy
  • Zest of 1 lemon or juice of ½ lime
  • 300 gms. shredded suet
  • 250 gms. dark brown sugar
  • 85 gms. chopped mixed peel
  • ½ small nutmeg, grated
  • 1 large apple, peeled and grated
  • 2 eggs, beaten for brushing
  • Icing sugar for dusting

How to Make Christmas Mock Mince Pie

  • Cut thinly rolled pastry into rounds to fit patty tins with an equal number of slightly smaller rounds for tops.
  • Put almost 2 teaspoonfuls of mincemeat into each and brush edges with water.
  • Put tops on and seal. Flake edges against back of forefinger, using a sharp knife.
  • Make a hole in the top of each pie with a knife or scissors.
  • Brush over with milk or beaten egg and bake in a hot oven at 220 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
  • Dredge tops of the mince pies lightly with a little icing sugar.
  • Serve hot or cold as desired.
