  • 3 - tomatoes
  • 2 - onions, chopped
  • 1 - green chilli slit
  • 1 spring - curry leaves
  • A pinch - mustard
  • A pinch - cumin
  • A pinch - asafetida
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp - roasted white sesame seeds
  • 4 tbsp - coconut milk
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Coastal Andhra tomato curry

  • Wash and blanche tomatoes and peel off the skin.
  • Chop tomatoes, removing the seeds.
  • Toast sesame seeds, grind to a fine powder and keep aside.
  • Heat a pan with oil, splutter mustard, cumin, curry leaves and green chilli.
  • Add asafoetida, onions, salt and fry till they turn slightly pink. Do not brown the onions
  • Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, fry for 3 to 4 mins, cover and cook till the tomatoes turn fully mushy and soft
  • Add red chilli powder and fry for a min or 2
  • Add sesame seed powder, mix and fry for a min
  • Pour coconut milk. Mix well. Simmer for a min or 2.
  • Serve.
