  • 3 cups - Basmati rice
  • 2 cups - fresh grated coconut
  • 1 tbsp - mustard seeds, raw
  • 7 - red chillies
  • 2 stalks - curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • 2 tbsp - peanuts
  • 1 tsp - tamarind paste or 2 tsp of lime

How to Make Coconut Mustard Rice

  • Cook the rice separately and allow it to cool.
  • Blend the coconut, red chillies, mustard seeds, tamarind paste or juice in a blender, without adding water.
  • Heat oil in a pan or kadai.
  • Add the whole peanuts. Fry till it turns light brown.
  • Add the curry leaves and add the blended masala.
  • Fry this paste for 5 to 6 mins or until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Add salt to the masala and mix it with rice.
  • Ready to serve.
