Ingredients

  • Crab - 1 kg (about 5 crabs)
  • Potato - 250 g
  • Onion - 150 g
  • Garlic - 4 flakes
  • Ginger - 3 cm
  • Oil - 4-6 tbsp
  • Cardamom - 3
  • Cinnamon - 3 pieces
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  • Tomato - 250 g, chopped
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Crab Kalia

  • Clean the crabs. Cut each into 2 halves.
  • Peel the potatoes and cut each into 4 pieces.
  • Grind the onion, ginger and garlic into a paste.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai and saute the crabs for 3-4 minutes and remove.
  • Add cardamom, cinnamon and the bay leaf to the oil in the kadhai.
  • Then add the potatoes and fry to light brown.
  • Add the paste and saute lightly.
  • Add the chilli and cumin powders. Then add salt, turmeric powder and the crabs.
  • Add a cup of water and simmer until the potatoes and crabs are tender.
  • Add the tomatoes and cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice.
