Ingredients

  • Black whole masoor dal - 1 cup
  • Sambar powder - 2 tsp
  • Dry mango powder (aamchoor) - 1 tsp or to taste
  • Jaggery powder - 2 tsp
  • Ghee or oil - 1.5 tbsp
  • Cloves - 2
  • Cinnamon - 2 pieces
  • Finely chopped onion - 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Curried Black Masoor

  • Pressure cook the dal with 1.5 cups of water for 5 minutes.
  • Let it stand for 15 minutes.
  • Now add the salt, amchoor, sambar powder, and jaggery.
  • Stir until the jaggery dissolves.
  • Now heat the oil/ ghee in a small ladle.
  • Add the cloves and the cinnamon.
  • Add the onion and fry until pink.
  • Add this to the dal and mix well.
  • Serve hot with chapati.
