  • Bengal gram (channa) dal - 1.25 cup
  • oil - 3 tbsp
  • dry coconut (copra) - 1, grated
  • dried red chilies - 15 to 20
  • curry leaves - 1 cup, heaped
  • asafetida - ½ tsp
  • tamarind - 1.5 cm ball
  • salt to taste

How to Make Curry leaf Chutney Powder

  • Dry roast the dal, cool and powder.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of oil and fry dry coconut till brown.
  • Heat remaining oil and fry chilies sand remove.
  • Add curry leaves to the remaining oil in the pan, fry till crisp.
  • Add asafoetida, mix well and remove.
  • Combine the copra, chilies, curry leaves and asafoetida together.
  • Break up the tamarind into tiny pieces and add to this mixture.
  • Powder these together coarsely and mix with the dal powder.
  • Add salt, mix well and store in a clean and dry bottle.
