Dal Makhni is a must-have curry recipe very popular in North India. This creamy curry is usually served along with roti, naan or paratha. The addition of yummy butter makes this recipe extra delicious for a wholesome feast.

Ingredients

  • 20 gms. whole urad (yellowish lentils)
  • 7 gms. kidney beans
  • Small piece of ginger
  • 1 clove garlic
  • Little cream
  • 1 tsp. butter
  • 1 small tomato
  • 1 tsp. red chilli powder
  • To garnish:
  • 50 gms. chopped onions
  • 1 tsp. chilli powder
  • ½ tsp. cumin seeds
  • Ground black pepper
  • Eggcup of cream
  • A few fine strips of ginger

How to Make Dal Makhni

  • Soak the urad and beans in water for about 8 hours.
  • Drain and put into fresh water, bring to the boil, then lower heat and simmer.
  • Add the tomatoes and continue simmering.
  • Add the butter and continue cooking for a further 10 mins, then add the onion, chilli powder, cumin seeds and pepper.
  • Mix well and cook for a further 10 mins.
  • Serve hot with the garnish.
