Ingredients

  • 1 cup - channa dal
  • 1 cup - whole urad dal
  • 1/2 cup - rajma
  • 10-15 cloves - garlic
  • 2 medium - onions, chopped
  • 2 medium - tomatoes, chopped
  • 2-3 - green chillies, chopped
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp - cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp - coriander powder
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1 inch - ginger, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - butter
  • Kasoori methi

How to Make Dhaba-style dal

  • Soak the rajma, channa dal and urad dal overnight. Wash and pressure cook till done.
  • Now, take a pan and heat oil in it.
  • Add chopped garlic and fry till it turns brown.
  • Now, add onions and chillies and sautee for 5-10 minutes till the onions are golden brown.
  • Add tomatoes, red chilli powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder and cook till the tomatoes and masala are well done.
  • Add boiled dal and butter; cook for 1 minute.
  • Now, add salt and coriander leaves and cook on low heat till you get a slightly thick consistency.
  • Sprinkle kasoori methi over the dal and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Serve with roti, naan, paranthas or rice.
