Ingredients

  • Chana dal - 500 gms
  • chopped green chilli - 3
  • chopped onion - 1, medium size
  • chopped ginger and garlic - 1 tsp
  • cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
  • turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • red chilli powder - 1 tsp (or as per your taste)
  • sugar - a pinch
  • salt - to taste
  • oil - 2 tbsp

How to Make Dhonka

  • Take channa dal and soak it for at least 2 hours. Then wash the dal and put it in a mixer, put little bit of water for making a smooth paste.
  • In low flame, put 2 teaspoon of oil in a kadai. Once it's hot, add cumin seeds, when splutters, add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger & garlic, cook it for few seconds.
  • Add dal paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt & sugar, stir it until the paste doesn't stick the kadai.
  • Take out the dal paste on a flat tray and give a little press on it by your hand to make the upper level plain. Keep it in freeze and let it cool.
  • After 15-20 minutes take out the tray. The dal paste becomes little hard so that it will be easy to cut them into pieces.
  • Now take a deep fry pan, put enough oil for deep fry and keep it on a medium flame. Fry the dhonka pieces carefully till golden brown.
  • Serve hot with sauce/ chutney.
