It is best to take basa fish or halibut for the recipe and cut it into two equal halves so that you can rub the spice mix on it. Then the fish is fried till it gets brown.   • 1 kg - Halibut or basa fish
  • 1/4 tsp - Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp - Ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp - Ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp - Ground cardamoms
  • 1/8 tsp - Turmeric
  • 3 large - Tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tbsp - Coriander leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup - Water
  • 1.50 tsp - Salt
  • 1 tsp - Paprika
  • 1/8 tsp - Turmeric
  • Salt
  • 3 tbsp - Mustard oil
  • 3 large - Onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves - Farlic, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp - Chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp - Cumin
  • 1/2 cup - Yoghurt

How to Make Fish Curry (Bengali Style)

  • Cut fish into serving pieces.
  • Rub with paprika and turmeric; salt lightly. Heat oil and brown fish. Remove and set aside.
  • Fry onions and garlic until brown, adding more oil, if necessary.
  • Add chilli powder, cumin, mustard seeds, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and turmeric.
  • Fry for a minute or two. Put in tomatoes, coriander leaves and water.
  • Simmer until tomatoes are tender.
  • Add salt and yoghurt.
  • Put in fish, cover and simmer for about 10 minutes, watching carefully.
