Ingredients

  • 1 kg - Seer fish
  • 4-5 crushed, garlic
  • 100 ml, Oil for deep or shallow frying
  • For marinade:
  • 2 tbsp - Chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp - Coriander powder
  • 1/2 - turmeric powder
  • Salt according to taste
  • 1 tsp - Jeera powder
  • 1 tsp - Fennel powder
  • 1 tsp - Pepper powder
  • 2 tbsp - Rice flour
  • 1 tsp - Corn flour
  • 1-2 tbsp - Olive or mustard oil
  • 1 tbsp - Onion paste
  • 1 tbsp - Garlic paste
  • 1/2 tbsp - Ginger
  • 2 tbsp - Lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp - curd
  • Garnish: Fried curry leaves, garlic, onion
  • Fried cabbage
  • Spring onions
  • Accompaniments: Red hot chilli mayonnaise

How to Make Fish fry recipe

  • Pre-preparation:
  • In a bowl, add all the marinade ingredients and mix well to make a paste.
  • Coat the fish pieces with this paste and marinate for at least an hour.
  • Heat the oil till it's hot.
  • Slide 2 to 3 fish pieces in the first batch without overcrowding.
  • Fry till crispy brown. The marinade has lemon juice and curd, so don't fry it for too long, or else it might overcook and be rubbery in texture.
  • Remove and place on a kitchen towel or paper napkin.
  • Repeat the process till all pieces are fried; set aside.
  • In the same oil, add some finely sliced cabbage and onion and remove on an absorbing paper.
  • Serve the cabbage and onion as a bed.
  • Fry some curry leaves and garlic ensuring the garlic isn't burnt.
  • Remove on an absorbing paper and sprinkle it on the fried fish as garnish.
  • Place some lemon wedges and serve with accompaniment of your choice.
