  • 4 to 6 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 pound fish fillets, cod or sea bass
  • 1 large potato, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 cup cauliflower, cut up
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp. grated ginger
  • 2 cardamoms, crushed slightly
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • ¼ tsp. turmeric
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
  • ½ cup green peas
  • 1 ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ cup yoghurt
  • Water as required

How to Make Fish Kalia

  • Heat 3 tbsp. of the oil and quickly brown fish pieces. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Brown potatoes and cauliflower, adding more oil as necessary. Remove and set aside.
  • Brown onions. Add grated ginger, cardamoms, cloves, garlic, turmeric, cinnamon and cayenne pepper.
  • Fry for 2 to 3 minutes. Add green peas, browned potato and cauliflower.
  • Put in salt and yoghurt. Simmer for a minute or two.
  • Then add enough water to cook vegetables.
  • When they are almost done, put in fish and simmer until done.
  • Serve very hot.
