Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Beaten Rice (Poha)
  • 2 tsp - Tamarind paste
  • 2 tsp - Jaggery
  • Salt to taste
  • 1.5 cups - Water
  • 1 tsp - Chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp - Grated coconut
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Seasoning ingredients:
  • 2 tbsp - Oil
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard seeds
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • A pinch of turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp - Bengal gram dal
  • 1/4 tsp - Urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp - Groundnut
  • Curry leaves

How to Make Gojju Avalakki

  • Coarsely grind poha for a few seconds in a blender.
  • Make sure it doesn't become powdery.
  • Add tamarind, jaggery, salt, chilli powder and salt to water.
  • Mix well and add the coarse poha.
  • Heat oil and add mustard. Allow it to splutter.
  • Add turmeric, asafoetida, curry leaves and the rest of the seasoning ingredients.
  • Add the soaked poha to the seasoning.
