Ingredients

  • 1 cup - flour
  • 1 cup - castor sugar
  • 185 g - butter (melted)
  • 2 - egg
  • 2 tsp - baking powder
  • 1 tsp - vanilla essence
  • 1 tbsp - hot water
  • To decorate:
  • desiccated coconut
  • glaced cherries (halved) jam

How to Make Golden Brown Madeleines

  • Combine eggs and sugar.
  • Beat until thick.
  • Sift flour and baking powder.
  • Add flour, melted butter, vanilla essence and water to the egg mixture.
  • Spoon a little into each well-greased mould.
  • Bake at 190 degree C for 12-15 minutes or until well golden browned.
  • Remove and cool on wire rack.
  • Brush each madeleine with jam.
  • Coat well with desiccated coconut and top with glace cherries.
