Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - chicken
  • 1.5 cup - gongura leaves
  • 4- green chillies
  • 3/4 cup - chopped onions
  • 2 tsp - garam masala
  • 1.5 tbsp - poppy seed paste
  • Oil as needed
  • 1/2 tbsp - ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/8 tsp sugar
  • Dry spices
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 1- sprig of curry leaves
  • 2 - green cardamoms
  • 4 - cloves
  • Small - cinnamon stick
  • A pinch - cumin
  • To Marinate:
  • 2 tsp - lemon juice
  • 3/4 tbsp - ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/8 tsp - turmeric
  • 1/8 tsp - red chilli powder
  • Salt as needed.

How to Make Gongura chicken curry Gravy

  • Grind poppy seeds into a fine paste.
  • Marinate the chicken with lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, red chilli powder and salt and keep aside.
  • Heat a pan with 1 tsp oil, add the gongura leaves and fry till they wilt , add sugar to retain the green colour and set aside to cool
  • Heat a pan with oil, add the dry spices and saute.
  • Add onions and green chillies, sprinkle some salt and fry till the onions turn brown.
  • Take off the green chillies and grind in the blender along with gongura leaves.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a min
  • Add chicken and fry on high for 2 to 3 mins, till the chicken turns white
  • Add enough water to cover the chicken, add garam masala
  • Cover and cook till the chicken is tender.
  • Add the poppy seeds paste, and gongura paste and mix well.
  • Cook on a low flame for 3 to 4 mins
  • Serve hot
