  • 1/2 cup - green gram
  • 3 tbsp - grated coconut
  • 3/4 Cup - grated jaggery
  • 1 tbsp - ghee
  • 2 tbsp - cashews
  • 1/2 tsp - cardamom powder
  • 1 cup - rice flour
  • 2 tbsp - oil

How to Make Green gram kozhukattai

  • Heat a pan with 1/2 cup water, a tsp of oil and a little salt.
  • When the water starts to boil, add the rice flour and mix well.
  • Remove from flame and keep aside covered with a plate.
  • Add green gram to the pan and fry for 2 mins.
  • Cook the fried gram in a pressure cooker up to 3 whistles.
  • Strain the excess water from the cooked green gram and grind it lightly in a mixer.
  • Add grated jaggery and 1/2 cup water to a heated pan.
  • Dissolve the jaggery.
  • Once the jaggery syrup thickens, add grated coconut and ground green gram powder. Mix well and remove from flame.
  • Fry the cashews in ghee and add it to the green gram mixture.
  • To this, add cardamom powder.
  • Take the rice flour mixture in a bowl, sprinkle some warm water and some oil.
  • Knead to make a dough.
  • Dip your fingers in oil and take a small ball of dough. Shape into a cup.
  • Place the pooran in the cup and press to seal.
  • Repeat the same for the rest of the dough and pooran.
  • Steam cook kozhukattai in an idli cooker for 5 mins.
  • Serve hot.
