  • 200 gms - kambu, broken
  • 200 gms - raw rice, broken
  • 150 gms - urad dal
  • 2 tbsp - black pepper
  • 1 tbsp - cumin/ jeera
  • 3 tbsp - gingili oil
  • 1 tsp - mustard
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt (as required)

How to Make Kambu (Bajra) Idli

  • Soak kambu, rice, urad dal separately for 3 - 4 hours in water.
  • Finely grind urad dal to form a cream like consistency.
  • Add rice to the soaked kambu and grind well, then add pepper and jeera to it.
  • Now mix the ground urad dal, kambu and salt with 1 tbsp of oil.
  • Mix it to form a consistent batter.
  • Keep it aside for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Temper mustard, urad dal and curry leaves in a little oil.
  • Add to the idly batter; stir well.
  • Steam the batter to make idlis and serve hot with milagai podi.
