Ingredients

  • 1 cup - idli rice
  • 1 fist full - channa dal
  • 2 tbsp - tur dal
  • 2 tbsp - urad dal
  • 2-3 generous pinches - asafetida
  • 5-8 - red chillies
  • salt and water as needed
  • 1 sprig - curry leaves
  • oil as needed

How to Make Kara Paniyaram

  • Soak the rice and dals together for 3 hours.
  • Grind the red chillies and add salt and asafoetida.
  • Add the soaked rice and dal and grind to a coarse paste (like rava).
  • Prepare a thick batter.
  • Pour into the paniyaram moulds. Cover and cook on medium flame.
  • Cook both sides until golden brown.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney.
