Ingredients

  • 250 gms. medium-sized karela (prepare and cook the karelas in earlier recipe and keep aside)
  • 2 tsp - salt
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 tsp - coriander powder
  • 3/4 tsp - chilli powder
  • For the gravy:
  • 1/4 cup - oil or 1/2 cup - butter or 1/4 cup - butter
  • 1 large-sized onion (ground to a paste)
  • 1 tsp - each ginger and garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp - salt
  • 3/4 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1 cup - tomato puree
  • 1/2 tsp - sugar to taste
  • 2-3 tbsp - cream1-2 tsp - garam masala
  • For garnishing:
  • Coriander leaves (chopped)

How to Make Karela butter masala

  • Fry onions, garlic and ginger paste in oil and butter for a minute.
  • Add the tomato puree, salt, coriander powder and chilli powder.
  • Cook till butter floats on the top.
  • Add fried karela and 1/2-3/4 cup - of water.
  • Simmer the karela for 15-20 mins.
  • Add cream, sprinkle garam masala and chopped green coriander leaves before serving.
