Ingredients

  • Tur dal - 1 cup
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Onion - 1
  • Ginger paste - 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Tomato(diced or paste) - 3 tbsp
  • Tamarind - 6-8 pieces (not paste)
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Jeera seeds - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves

How to Make Khatti Masala Daal

  • Wash tuvar dal and boil it.
  • Mash the dal.
  • In a kadai, put oil.
  • Add curry leaves, mustard seeds and jeera seeds.
  • Fry for a minute
  • Add onion and fry till slightly brown.
  • Add ginger and garlic paste.
  • Fry for a minute.
  • Then add the tomatoes (paste or diced).
  • Cook it till the oil separates.
  • Add tamarind in it. Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
  • Cook for 4 to 5 mins.
  • Add the mashed tur dal.
  • Add water as per the thickness required. Add salt to taste.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
