It is really simple and you can make it at home with a few ingredients: cluster beans, mustard, urad dal, channa dal, grated coconut, curry leaves and salt. 

Referred to as ' Kothavarangai' in Tamil, these cluster beans are loaded with proteins, soluble fiber and essential vitamins. Cook the boiled cluster beans along with mustard, urad dal, channa dal and grated coconut to achieve a mouth-watering side dish for your steamed rice or any form of variety rice.

  • Cluster Beans-1/2 cup
  • Mustard-1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal-1/2 tsp
  • Channa Dal-1/2 tsp
  • Curry Leaves-1 sprig
  • Grated Coconut-1/3 cup
  • Oil-1 tsp
  • Salt-to taste

How to Make Kothavarangai Thengai Kootu

  • Chop cluster beans and grate coconut. Boil water and add chopped cluster beans and cook. Strain and keep aside.
  • In a pan, add oil followed by mustard, urad dal, channa dal and curry leaves.
  • Add cooked cluster beans and salt. Also add grated coconut. Mix well and serve with sambhar and rice.
