Ingredients

  • 2 - Leeks (chopped)
  • 2 - Tomatoes
  • 1 tsp - Sambar powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Coriander powder
  • A few curry leaves
  • 1 cup - Cooked toor dal
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad dal
  • 3 - Dry red chillies
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafetida powder
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • 1 tsp - Lemon juice

How to Make Leek and Tomato Sambar

  • Heat enough oil; splutter the mustard seeds, urad dal, and cumin seeds.
  • Fry the dry red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida powder, until they turn brown.
  • Add the leeks, tomatoes, and salt and saute everything until the vegetables shrink.
  • Now add the cooked toor dal, sambar powder, coriander powder, salt and enough water, and bring everything to boil.
  • Cook the sambar on simmer until the vegetables are well cooked.
  • Add the lemon juice and remove from flame.
  • Serve with papads and rice.
