Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. coconut oil
  • ¼ tsp. ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoon ground coriander
  • ¼ tsp. cumin
  • ¼ tsp. chilli powder
  • 1 fresh or pickled green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1 ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 pound halibut, sea bass or snapper
  • 1 cup thick coconut milk
  • 3 tbsp. white vinegar

How to Make Malayalee Fish Pappas

  • Heat oil and brown the onions.
  • Add coriander, cumin, chilli powder, turmeric, green chilli and ginger.
  • Fry for a minute or two. Add water and salt, stirring thoroughly.
  • Put in fish and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Add coconut milk and simmer until fish is very tender.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vinegar.
  • If coconut oil is not available, use clarified butter or vegetable oil.
