Ingredients

  • 2 cups - white peas
  • 2 - large onions, chopped
  • 2 - large tomatoes
  • 3 - green chillies, chopped
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - black salt
  • 2 tbsp - mint chutney
  • 2 sprigs - mint leaves
  • 2 tbsp - tamarind chutney
  • 1/2 tsp - garam masala
  • 1 tsp - dry mango powder
  • lemon to taste
  • coriander leaves for garnishing

How to Make Matar Chatpate

  • Soak the white peas overnight.
  • Pressure-cook the peas the next morning for 10 minutes. Let the peas rest in steam for another 10 minutes (open and keep checking to prevent over steaming).
  • Pour the peas into a big mixing bowl and add chopped tomatoes, onions, green chillies and mint leaves.
  • Mix well and add both the mint and tamarind chutneys.
  • Add the dry masalas and lemon juice and mix well.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
