Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup - mixed dal (Tuar, Masoor, Urad, Moong and Chana dal in equal quantity)
  • 1 - large onion (chopped)
  • 2 tsp - garlic (chopped)
  • 2 - tomatoes (chopped)
  • 2 - green chilli (chopped)
  • 1 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - red chilli powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp - desi ghee
  • salt to taste
  • For Tadka (Tempering):
  • 1/2 tbsp - desi ghee (clarified butter)
  • a pinch - asafoetida
  • 3 - whole red chillies

How to Make Mixed Dal Fry

  • Soak mix dal for one hour. Heat desi ghee in a pressure cooker. Put chopped onions, garlic and green chilli and fry for two minutes.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and fry for a min
  • Add dal, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and adjust water.
  • Close the lid and cook for 6 whistles.
  • When cooked, add tadka.
  • Serve hot roti or rice.
