  • 1 cup - chana dal
  • 1/2 cup - moong dal
  • 1/2 cup - masoor dal
  • 1/4 cup - urad dal
  • 1/4 cup - tur dal
  • 2 tbsp - coriander powder
  • 2 tbsp - chilli powder
  • half inch - ginger
  • 5 to 6 - cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 cup - fresh spinach, chopped
  • salt to taste

How to Make Mixed Dal

  • Mix and wash all the dals together. Add water (keep the dal: water ratio at 1:5)
  • Add a little salt and turmeric and let it cook. It usually takes about 30-35 mins.
  • Add dhania powder and chilli powder and churn it very well.
  • Add the chopped ginger and garlic, along with the spinach, and cook the dal for some time.
  • Heat some ghee in a small kadai and add jeera and hing.
  • Then add the tadka to the dal.
  • Sprinkle freshly cut coriander leaves. Serve hot with rotis or rice.
